Ryan Seacrest Shocking Confession: The Hidden Danger Behind His Favorite Part of ‘Wheel of Fortune’ That Could Change the Show Forever!
yan Seacrest has been enjoying his gig as the host of “Wheel of Fortune,” but there is one slightly dangerous aspect of the job. The “American Idol” host shares that along with his favorite part of “Wheel,” there’s a downside, too.
Ryan Seacrest Braces Himself: Some Contestants ‘Throw Me Around’
In a June 2025 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Seacrest dished about how he has adjusted to taking over hosting duties from Pat Sajak on “Wheel of Fortune.”
Sajak’s shoes weren’t easy to fill, but Seacrest effortlessly took on the role, winning over fans who’ve been watching the game show for years.
When asked about the aspect of the show he enjoys the most, Seacrest said that he loves the interaction with contestants — but noted there’s also a potential risk factor, given his smaller stature.
“I love interviewing the contestants,” he said.
Seacrest added, “It can get physical, too! Maybe it’s my size, but the men throw me around. I think, ‘Oh my God, it’s coming.’ (Laughs.) I bruise easily, you should know.”
In January, one contestant knocked Seacrest to the ground after winning almost $72,000.
Ryan Seacrest Prepped a Lot for the ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Job
During the interview, Seacrest also shared how the role came his way. It turns out, there were discussions for some time, and it was a no-brainer for him to accept the gig.
He explained, “There were conversations — actually, years ago — about me doing this show, and I expressed interest even back then. When you look at what Pat and Vanna [White, co-host] have built over the years … they are your friends.”
Seacrest added, “What they’ve established is special. So that’s why I said yes.”
As for how he prepared, the host really studied up. “It required a lot more prep than you’d think,” Seacrest shared. “I made flashcards for myself and, when I could, logged in remotely to watch tape-days.”
He added, “About six months out, my producer built a little travel-friendly wheel for me so I could play in hotel conference rooms with random people. (Laughs.).”
Seacrest also shared that, even though it’s enjoyable, he takes the job seriously because it’s such a beloved show.
“I have a lot fun with the job, but I take the responsibility very seriously,” he said.
Seacrest added, “We all have memories of watching ‘Wheel’ with our families. I mowed lawns growing up in Atlanta just to save money to buy a Zenith TV for the kitchen so we could watch ‘Wheel’ during dinner!”
