Tom Cruise Wants to Make Movies Until He’s Over 100, But Doesn’t Want to Be the “Last Movie Star”

Tom Cruise, the 63-year-old Hollywood icon, has just shared his desire to continue his acting career until he turns 100, and expressed his desire not to be considered the “last movie star” in the modern era of cinema.

At the New York premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning on May 18, Cruise told Entertainment Tonight that he doesn’t want to be seen as the last of the traditional movie stars: “There are so many other talented actors out there and I want to see them have great success.”

He specifically mentioned Michael B. Jordan – one of the young stars he admires: “I’m a big fan of his. Sinners was great. We’re going to do a movie together.” When speaking to People , Cruise also expressed his respect for director Ryan Coogler and affirmed his love for the films they create: “It’s big cinema, I admire what they do and love to see people succeed.” He also shared: “I always try my best to help others, from filmmakers to actors. Everyone knows my door is always open, and I’m excited about the projects they create, that always inspires me.”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter , Tom Cruise pledged that he will continue to make films in all genres – action, drama, comedy – until he is “over 100.” “I will never stop,” he asserted. “I am very excited about what is to come.”

Cruise’s comments come as actor Sean Penn recently called Jennifer Lawrence “the last movie star” in Hollywood who can pull audiences into theaters with her name alone. Penn, 64, while discussing the film industry on a podcast with Louis Theroux, also praised Leonardo DiCaprio as still a “box office draw,” and noted the shift in traditional star-making: “I think they ran out of real movie stars since Jennifer Lawrence.”

Sean Penn also praised Tom Cruise, calling him an actor who “pursues excellence at a very high level,” and a craftsman who is dedicated to his craft. “He’s probably the best stuntman in the world,” Penn said, noting Cruise’s skill and experience in performing action scenes that many others cannot.

Tom Cruise continues to prove himself not only as a top action star but also as a model of perseverance and endless passion for the seventh art, ready to inspire future generations of young actors and audiences.
